No it’s not a type of aircraft, a glider is also a type of seat with a fixed base with a rocking mechanism which is integral to the construction of the chair. The mechanism for the chair rocking movement is typically fairly heavy so these are chairs that you’ll leave in the same place for long periods of time. These are ideal relaxing spots when placed next to an entertainment center or stereo, where you can gently rock while listening to jazz, the classics or whatever takes your fancy. Rocking chairs typically have arched wooden rails on the base to create the rocking motion but a glider is a refinement of this seating type has no moving parts in contact with the ground and consequently it won’t mark more delicate solid wood or laminate flooring which is increasingly popular. This type of chair also typically provides more effortless motion than a conventional rocker which of course adds comfort and relaxation to your experience of these wonderful seats. The rocking motion is perhaps most evocative of the slow southern style. Picture an old-timer on the porch at sun-down sipping a whiskey and smoking a corn cob and watching the world going by.
